Ruthless Anti-Cheating

Online Tests Where Cheating Gets Caught.

The first question every owner asks: can a student just open ChatGPT during the test? Not on Institura. Leaving the exam is caught, warned, then locked, and you get the evidence.

What It Watches

Switch it on for any test with one toggle. Leave it off for relaxed practice tests.

ChatGPT and Gemini

Opening an AI app or tab to look up an answer means leaving the exam, and leaving the exam is caught.

  • Another tab or another app
  • Android's Gemini overlay too
  • Alt-Tab and window switching

Full-screen lock

The paper runs in full screen. Exit it and the exam notices, warns, and brings full screen back.

  • Exiting full screen is a violation
  • On laptops, the cursor leaving the window is caught
  • Developer-tools, print and save keyboard shortcuts blocked

Warning, then lock

Students get one clear warning. Do it again and the attempt locks until an invigilator acts.

  • No silent penalties: students see the warning
  • Locked papers can't be submitted by the student
  • Accidental bursts aren't counted twice

Evidence log

Every violation is recorded in plain language with the time it happened, so the conversation with a parent is about facts.

  • Time-stamped event trail
  • Phone, tablet or laptop shown per student
  • Flagged students listed on the results page

Invigilator controls

Locked students wait on a locked screen. You choose what happens next.

  • Resume: the student continues writing
  • Terminate: the paper is graded as it stands
  • History is kept either way

No copying from neighbours

Shuffle questions and options within each section, so two students side by side see different papers.

  • Switching on anti-cheating turns shuffle on too
  • Sections stay in order, like the real exam
  • Hard end time stops answer-key leaks

What Happens When Someone Tries

  1. Step 1

    Student leaves the exam

Opens ChatGPT, Gemini, another tab or another app, or exits full screen.

  2. Step 2

    Warning on screen

A full-screen red warning, and the exam returns to full screen by itself.

  3. Step 3

    Paper locks

Do it again and the attempt locks. Every event is saved as evidence.

  4. Step 4

    You decide

Resume the student or end the attempt in one click from the results page.

What no browser can do

Anti-cheating watches the device the exam is open on. No website can see a second phone on the desk or a person sitting beside the student, and webcam proctoring is not part of Institura today. For the highest-stakes mocks, combine it with a lab or an invigilator in the room. On iPhone Safari, full screen isn't available, but switching tabs and apps is still caught.

Questions Owners Ask

Does Institura catch students using ChatGPT or Gemini?

It catches a student leaving the exam to use them: opening another tab, switching to another app, or pulling up Android's Gemini overlay during the test. It can't see a separate phone or laptop beside the student.

What happens when a student is caught?

The first time, a full-screen warning appears and the exam returns to full screen. If it happens again, the attempt locks. The invigilator then resumes the student or ends the attempt, and the evidence log shows exactly what happened and when.

Will honest students get locked by mistake?

It is built to avoid that. Rapid repeated signals count as one event, and on phones, opening the keyboard to type a numerical answer is not treated as leaving the exam. If a student is locked unfairly, one click resumes them.

Can I use it only for some tests?

Yes. Ruthless Anti-Cheating is a toggle on each test. Turn it on for mocks and keep relaxed practice tests without it.

Does it work on phones?

Yes. Tab and app switching, including Android's Gemini overlay, is caught on phones. Laptops give the strictest proctoring because the full-screen lock works everywhere there.
